What Games to Expect

By Nicholas Kim

To all gamers of the Long Beach community, I have a message to you. COVID-19 has affected our way of life, but during November, new games will be released and you can find comfort when you play them. Here is a list of games that will be released soon.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Ubisoft’s new game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has players step into the boots of a Viking raider named Eivor. Eivor leads a Viking clan from Norway to the lands of Dark Ages England, with hope of settling down. However, resistance from the Saxons won't exactly make it easy for Eivor. Valhalla introduces new features such as raiding, settlement management, and character customization. This is the 12th major installment of the Assassin’s Creed series and one of the most widely anticipated games since its announcement in April. Available on Xbox and Playstation on November 10.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Fans who enjoyed Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 in 2018 will be looking forward to Spider-Man: Miles Morales and a return of web-slinging mechanics. Gamers who watched the Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse movie will have their minds blown away when they play this game. The game is more of a spin-off rather than a full-blown after sequel, it utilizes a different lead to tell a story. Available on PS5 and PS4 on November 12.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War

The next installment of the Call of Duty franchise developed by Treyarch, Cold War, is set to be a direct sequel to the original Black Ops story. The single-player story is about a tense political atmosphere of the 1980s and tasks soldiers to hunt down a mysterious Soviet agent called “Perseus”. When playing the story, gamers will see familiar faces from old Black Ops games. The story missions aren’t just what gamers wanted, they want to play the new multiplayer features such as fighting zombies and online firefighting. Available on Xbox and Playstation on November 13.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a sprawling open-world game set in Night City, a corporation-controlled metropolis situated in California. In this game, players will be able to decide their own paths in this iconic city via distinctive, branching lifepaths and claim various weapons and gadgets that are heavily tied in with the cyberpunk genre. Not only does Cyberpunk 2077 have so many new features and gameplay mechanics, it also features the one and only Keanu Reeves. The game had been delayed a couple times and was set to be released in November, but has been delayed again to December due to developers having difficulty processing the game through nine different versions while working from home. Available on Xbox and Playstation on December 10.

These are the top anticipated games this year. There are plenty of other smaller games being released worth playing, but these particular games set the bar high for their respective genres. To all Long Beach gamers, if you are looking for a new game to play then I’ll suggest you look at the games listed here.

Reuniting, Internationally

The year before I moved to the States, I joined a non-profit with a group of friends. The co-founders named it “The Cambio Project” after the word Spanish word for ‘change’. Being environmental activists, we wanted to bring about said change through photography. By the end of our first year of operation, the majority of our core members left to study abroad. Two went to the Netherlands, another to Canada and I chose America. Our lives quickly drifted apart.

American Dream or American Nightmare?

Many foreigners grow up hearing about how America is the greatest country in the world, and that anyone can come here and achieve their dreams. For many of our ancestors, this was true, but is it different now?
