WandaVision

By Nicholas Kim

Disney released the trailer for one of its new Marvel series coming out in 2020 called WandaVision. The trailer was instantly noticed and got fans excited about the new story of Scarlet Witch and Vision.

Set after the events of Avengers Endgame, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are enjoying their suburban life together, but begin to learn that reality might not be what it seems.

After viewing the trailer, fans can speculate that Scarlet Witch has new powers that are reality-bending and magical. It seems that the writers are setting her to be exactly like the version of Scarlet Witch from the X-Men comics. A superhero with a wide array of abilities: telekinesis, telepathy, reality-bending, and more. These abilities are probably why the setting of the series looks like a 1950s sitcom-theme. The trailer also shows Vision, alive and which is a mystery due to Thanos killing him during the events of Avengers Infinity War. Fans hope that there will be an explanation of how Vision has been resurrected.

WandaVision is just the beginning. In 2022, there will be a new Marvel movie called Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film will feature Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Scarlet Witch as the main characters. This is another reason why fans are so excited for the premiere of WandaVision because the story will be important and will impact the story of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film was scheduled to be released in 2021, but was delayed along with other Marvel movies due to COVID-19 and will be released in 2022 hopefully.

The first episode of WandaVision will air in December and will be one of the first steps the Marvel Cinematic Universe will set up for future films.

Reuniting, Internationally

The year before I moved to the States, I joined a non-profit with a group of friends. The co-founders named it “The Cambio Project” after the word Spanish word for ‘change’. Being environmental activists, we wanted to bring about said change through photography. By the end of our first year of operation, the majority of our core members left to study abroad. Two went to the Netherlands, another to Canada and I chose America. Our lives quickly drifted apart.

American Dream or American Nightmare?

Many foreigners grow up hearing about how America is the greatest country in the world, and that anyone can come here and achieve their dreams. For many of our ancestors, this was true, but is it different now?
