Mental Health Days for Work

There is no doubt that society has slowly started to move more toward fully accepting mental health; that being said, we can all agree that there is still much room for growth. In our ever changing world,  our lives are becoming busier and busier, and this makes me wonder how we’re ever going to stay sane enough to keep up.

I’ve seen a lot of workplaces incorporate activities and events for their employees that focus on health and well-being, such as yoga and meditation, but now some are arguing that we deserve to take a day off to focus on our mental health.

Companies should be more compassionate towards employees, especially when it comes to mental health, because they never know what could be going on in their employees’ personal lives.

Although there are a number of people who don’t support this idea, I strongly believe that this is needed in the workplace. It’s true we overwork our bodies, but we do the same to our minds as well. How can we expect ourselves to be fully present and perform our best if we’re not even in the right mindset? In my opinion, if a person were to take the day off just to recollect themselves and find some peace, I think they would be in a much better place to do their work efficiently. We are only human, and sometimes we go through events and experience emotions that we can’t help.

Reuniting, Internationally

The year before I moved to the States, I joined a non-profit with a group of friends. The co-founders named it “The Cambio Project” after the word Spanish word for ‘change’. Being environmental activists, we wanted to bring about said change through photography. By the end of our first year of operation, the majority of our core members left to study abroad. Two went to the Netherlands, another to Canada and I chose America. Our lives quickly drifted apart.
