Keep Calm and Power On

Undoubtedly, this has been a crazy year to think about, but sometimes we have to live our lives because seeing the brighter sides of our obstacles helps better the outcomes. Things will get better for all of us suffering through this pandemic, such as those suffering from anxiety, financial stress, or prospects. Maybe, it’s a time for each of us to focus on ourselves by learning something new, reading a book, or learning a new language online. Re-center yourself with these great resources that are available to students for free or affordable rates that you may need at the moment. 

Here are some free or affordable resources for students: 

1. Masterclass is an online platform bringing you the best professionals in the industry from Anna Wintour to Martin Scorsese right to your living room with 5 to 10 minutes videos on their industry’s secrets and how they have remained successful in their careers. CSU Entertainment Alliance is only offering this 1-year free subscription (valued at $180) to CSU students until April 20th, 2020.

2. Swank - an academic film streaming service, can be found on the CSULB library’s media streaming section where you can find titles from “Get Out” to “The Disaster Artist.”

3. Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation Disaster Relief Fund Application (2020) for students who have been displaced from their dorms, housing, and unpaid wages (i.e., hourly employees with no sick/vacation leave). As well as individuals tested positive with Coronavirus - incurred cost of food/supplies* due to unpaid wages due to illness (i.e., hourly employees with no sick/vacation leaves). Families/individuals impacted without testing positive for Coronavirus - Loss of employment.

4. Temporary Digital Library Card - The Los Angeles Library County is offering a 90-day digital card so people can still access all of the library’s digital resources, including eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, TV, homework help, online classes, and more.

EveryoneOn.org - EveryoneOn is a leading nonprofit that helps advocate at the local, state, and federal levels for affordable internet services and refurbished computers for low-income folks, families with K-12 students, college students. EveryoneOn is available year-round, not only during emergencies. Use their offer locator to find internet offers, and refurbished computers by zip code that are available now.
